Deodorant Stains: Prevention & Removing
Stains. We’ve all been there, done that. We’ve all dribbled a sip of our morning coffee down the front of our dress shirts, dropped a French fry drenched in ketchup on our laps, and yellowed the pits of our light-colored shirts from a combination of deodorant and sweating throughout the day. While the former two scenarios are simply unfortunate accidents that might result in having to go new clothes shopping, deodorant stains are generally avoidable and should never have to be on your list of things to worry about. In fact, the majority of our customers never even encounter the issue, but it never hurts to practice prevention too!
So, what tricks can you keep up your sleeve to make sure your favorite shirt never suffers from those dreaded pit paintings?
Light & minimal application
Over-application is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to staining. Why? There’s an excess of product on your body with no where for it to go but your clothes. Mix that with sweat and you’ve just become the Picasso of pits. But because our natural deodorant is so effective, you only need to apply one to two light swipes to stay fresh all day long and never have to worry about mastering this undesirable artistry.
Apply to dry skin
Assuming you apply your deodorant after showering like the majority of us do, make sure you dry your underarms and give them a little breathing room to completely dry off before applying. If you choose to reapply throughout the day (remember, not too much!), make sure to clean and dry the area beforehand. Our natural deodorant works and remains on the skin best when applied to a dry surface!
Wait to put on clothes
We know you might be in a rush to make it to work, but let your deodorant dry completely before getting dressed. Freshly applied deodorant is much more likely to rub off on your clothes. Letting it dry and then putting on your shirt is a super simple way to prevent possible staining that literally takes no effort at all!
But… what if you’ve followed all of the tips and tricks above and have still managed to create a deodorant stain?
Like all things in life, sometimes stains do happen. Because our deodorant is not an antiperspirant, you may experience sweating. While this is healthy, normal, and for most, a non-issue, your staining could very well be caused by your body chemistry and the way your sweat is reacting with our ingredients. If that’s the case, or you simply slipped up on the application tips from above, knowing how to get those pesky marks out is key. The silver lining? You can do it all in the comfort of your home!
For thick & stubborn stains
Apply a bar soap or detergent directly to the stain. Use an old toothbrush to scrub into your shirt and allow it to soak for a few hours or overnight if possible. After, wash and rinse in laundry cycle as normal.
For mild stains
White vinegar works wonders on mild stains! Apply a small amount to the stain and allow it to soak for about an hour. For light or white clothing, let it soak in direct sunlight for maximum stain-fighting results. Once done soaking, gently rub the area with an old toothbrush and wash and rinse in laundry cycle as normal.
For stains on light clothing
Apply an equal mixture of water and lemon juice directly to the stain. Allow it to soak for about an hour and in direct sunlight for best results. To finish, wash and rinse in laundry cycle as normal.
For stains on white clothing
Crush up a few aspirin tablets and mix them with a couple drops of water to make a white paste. Rub the paste into the stained area, let it soak for about an hour, and then wash and rinse in laundry cycle as normal.
For yellow-ish stains
Mix up a concoction of baking soda and water, apply to the stained area, and let it soak for a few hours. When ready, wash and rinse in laundry cycle as normal.
Our natural deodorant is designed to help you feel calm, cool, confident and protected, no matter what adventures you may be embarking on, and we want you to have the best experience possible after swiping it on! Between practicing stain prevention through proper application and knowing how to remove them if they occasionally occur, your favorite shirts should always remain crisp, clean, and ready to wear for the day ahead.
